My name is Yinka Fedden and I live in the lovely market town of Bewdley in Worcestershire. I'm happily married with a grown up son and a dog.
I've always had a love for costume jewellery and because my taste is quite eclectic, I had already collected a sizeable amount before I began making jewellery myself.
I like the stories that lie behind each piece of jewellery - for example, where I was when I bought the piece; who bought it for me; to what occasion it was worn; what outfit it particularly complemented. And more importantly, how each piece makes me feel when I wear it.
So now that I'm actually designing each piece myself, I find myself getting inspired by what's around me, who's with me, what I've heard, smelt, seen, touched... the stimuli are endless! Even more inspiring are the occasions when I'm lucky enough to be designing bespoke pieces for clients - everyone's got a different story to tell, from the bride who wants a dragonfly theme on her own and her bridesmaid's jewellery to the client who wants to surprise her sister-in-law with a thoughtful gift designed with her in mind.
I work with semiprecious gemstones and silver plated findings and am currently on a very steep learning curve learning to work with pure silver and resin. I love colour, so all of my pieces are naturally BOLD!
I still love to buy jewellery, and I'm currently in love with Edwardian and Victorian pieces so I'm at my happiest when trawling through antique shops and specialist jewellers - you never know what treasures you might come upon!
Most of my pieces are sold online through my web or Facebook shops, and the occasional jewellery party. I also take part in the annual Open Studio event in Bewdley every summer.
Designing and making jewellery has been a revelation to me! My influences lay far and wide and new ideas seem to pop up as if from nowhere! This is an incredibly creative time for me and I am enjoying every moment.
